Adapter or Wireless Bridge compatible with TimeCapsule

Adapter or Wireless Bridge compatible with TimeCapsule

Ask :
I would like to connect my home theater ethernet enabled equipment to my TC 11n network. I envision an adapter that has the same 11n 2.4GHz and 5GHz WiFi performance and is as compatible as, say a MacBook to obtain maximum speeds. However it must have at least 2 ethernet ports, acting as a bridge or router to feed the home theater equipment.

Anything out there?

An AirPort Extreme would do exactly what you want if you set it up to "extend a wireless network". In this configuration, the AirPort Extreme provides expanded wireless coverage and the ethernet ports (3) are enabled, so you could connect ethernet devices.

Keep in mind that your "ethernet" connections will only be as good as the quality that your wireless network allows. The AirPort Extreme would need to be positioned in a location where it receives a strong signal from your Time Capsule.

An alternate setup might be to take a look a ethernet powerline adapters to provide an ethernet signal to your remote devices by using the AC power lines in your home. Most major router manufactures offer these types of products..Linksys, Netgear, D-Link, etc. Try "Google" for more info.

+Can the TC and Extreme be set to operate in 11n only in 5GHz but 11g in 2.4GHz?+

Both devices can do this if you have the "dual band" versions. Apple started shipping a dual band Time Capsule approximately a year ago, so depending on what generation of product you have, it may or may not be possible for it to handle 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz simultaneously.

If you are not sure, check the model number on the bottom of the Time Capsule and post back and we'll check on this.

A new AirPort Exptreme will be dual band, of course.
